TITLE IX, EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
In keeping with the intent of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Public Law 92-318, the Board of Education has adopted Policy No. 4155: “It is the intent of the Garden Grove Unified School District to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex and/or handicap throughout the educational programs and activities under its auspices.”
COMPLAINTS AGAINST SCHOOL PERSONNEL
The Garden Grove Unified School District maintains a procedure for registering a complaint regarding the performance or behavior of any teacher or other school employee.
Typically, concerns are expressed and resolved by holding a conference with the Administrator or the employee’s immediate supervisor. If the desire to register a complaint persists, the person may present it in writing by completing form 9701.61 (Formal Complaint Against an Employee of the Garden Grove Unified School District) which is available from the school office. (Board Policy 3120, Administrative Reg. 3120.1)
ADMISSION
Courses are open to any person 18 years of age or older. High school students may take adult education courses by referral from their high school counselor. There is open enrollment in most classes.
FEES
A tuition charge of $5.00 is required for some adult education courses. Students must pay a materials fee when such a fee has been established for a specific class.

SMOKE FREE/DRUG FREE CAMPUS
The Board of Education recognizes the use of tobacco as a health and safety hazard which presents a risk to the smoker and the nonsmoker. Therefore, district employees, students, and visitors shall demonstrate conduct consistent with district policies and refrain from using tobacco products on all campuses at all times.
TRANSPORTATION
Orange County Transportation Authority (O.C.T.A.) has a number of regular bus routes near each adult education site. Bus schedules are available in the main office at the Chapman Hettinga Education Center and the Lincoln Education Center. Detailed information regarding bus routes may be obtained by calling (714) 636-7433.
PARKING
Free parking is available at Chapman Hettinga Education Center, Clinton Corner Family Campus, and Lincoln Education Center.
TEXTBOOKS
Textbooks are sold in the main office of the respective campus where the course is located. Textbooks purchased in error may be returned within one week of purchase provided they are unmarked, in new condition, and accompanied by an adult education receipt.
Books are provided in adult education academic courses for classroom use.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance at the first class meeting is strongly advised because of enrollment demands. Regular attendance is expected for all adult students and is required for those seeking high school credits or a vocational training certificate. Students enrolled in classes which meet one or more times per week may be dropped from class after three absences.
CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT
Students are entitled to receive a Certificate of Achievement if they successfully complete an ESL adult education course. Successful completion means attending at least 80% of the total class hours and achieving the competencies. Certificates can also be earned in computer and Basic Education classes.
CODE OF CONDUCT
Students are expected to follow a general code of conduct conducive to the educational environment.
FULL CLASSES
Please be aware that some advertised classes may be closed. Classes may be full due to continuing students who have not completed course requirements or people from the previous semester’s waiting list. Call the school prior to enrolling to verify specific class availability.
REFUND
Fees are not refundable once a student has registered for a class.
CAMPUS INFORMATION
CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Child Care is available at Lincoln Education Center for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. This service is available for students enrolled in classes and is based on financial need. Hours for the center are 7:55 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Information about enrollment in this program is available in Room E-1 at Lincoln Education Center or by calling (714) 539-6291.
The Child Development Center is considering evening hours, Monday through Thursday from 5:55 p.m. to 9:10 p.m. If you are interested in the evening program, please call (714) 539-6291 during the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
CLINTON CORNER FAMILY LITERACY PRESCHOOL CLASS
Clinton Corner Family Campus has a preschool class available to children of adult ESL students. The class is available during the class hours of 8:15 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be two years old and potty trained to qualify.
LINCOLN EDUCATION CENTER: “THE LIBRARY”
Lincoln Education Center has a library for students currently enrolled in classes. Students may use the library to study. After purchasing a student identification card for $5.00, students are welcome to borrow books or use the computers to practice software from other labs or work on computer projects. Computers are not available for personal e-mail use. The library hours are daily from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
CHAPMAN HETTINGA EDUCATION CENTER: “STUDENT CENTER”
Chapman Hettinga Education Center has a student center for currently enrolled students. Students may use the student center to study. After purchasing a student identification card for $5.00, students are welcome to borrow books or use computers to practice software from other labs or work on computer projects. Computers are not available for personal e-mail use. The student center hours are daily from 9:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
EDD/EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AND CALWORKS SUPPORT
Anyone receiving financial support from Employment Development Department/EDD or CalWorks has an advisor at Lincoln Education Center or Chapman Hettinga Education Center. The advisor provides assistance in preparing a vocational plan that meets EDD and Social Service requirements.

Counselors are available to assist students at Chapman Hettinga Education Center and Lincoln Education Center between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. They can provide assistance in the following areas:

The diploma program offered in the Adult Education program of the Garden Grove Unified School District is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges which means the high school diploma is accepted by colleges if you plan to move on to higher levels of education. COUNSELORS ARE AVAILABLE
Counselors are available at both Lincoln Education Center and Chapman Hettinga Education Center from 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., daily, and 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Students working for credit toward a high school diploma MUST MEET WITH A COUNSELOR PRIOR TO ENROLLMENT IN CLASS. Prior high school records of credits (a transcript) will be obtained by the counseling office.
There are many ways of gaining credit. You probably have more allowable credit for a diploma than you realize. Credits may come from the following:
- previous high school courses
- community college courses
- private school courses
- correspondence schools (USAFI)
- military service
- work experience

Each June, Garden Grove Adult Education has a graduation ceremony for students who have completed diploma requirements. Graduates wear a cap and gown and receive diplomas in front of family and friends.
VISIT CLINTON CORNER FAMILY CAMPUS!
The campus houses Garden Grove Adult Education classes, including computer classes, child development programs, State Preschool and Boys and Girls programs. Additional classes will be added in the future as the educational needs of the local community are assessed and as demand grows. Classes are offered morning and evening.
Currently, the Garden Grove Adult Education program is offering E.S.L. (English as a Second Language), E.S.L. Citizenship, VESL/Business/Computer Literacy, and Computer Operator/Computer Literacy.
Clinton Corner Family Campus works with the local community to provide for the educational needs of the whole family.
